Anushka Sharma, along with her modeling career, enrolled in an acting academy and began auditioning for film roles. Anushka made her debut acting in the year 2008 in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi with Shah Rukh Khan. To prepare for her screen test, she stayed up all day. In the following days, she was cast in three films by Yash Raj Films. The film in which she starred played the role of a young bride of a middle-aged male (the role Shah Rukh Khan was playing). The film was hit on the box office and was the second-highest-grossing movie of 2008. In 2010 Anushka Sharma appeared in the film 'Badmash Company together with Shahid Kapoor Shahid Kapoor, Vir Das as well as Meiyang Chang. It was met with mixed receptions. Anushka was also seen with Ranveer in the movie 'Band Baaja Baaraat,' where she played the role of a Punjabi middle class woman who set up her own company. The film received a positive review and turned out to be a sleeper hit. Anushka finished her deal of three films with Yash Raj Films after Band Baaja Baaraat.
